Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia and the generosity of our community, East Gippsland Art Gallery has for the first time been able to employ an Arts Learning Coordinator. Melanie Murphy is an arts educator who brings years of experience to the Gallery Team.

Melanie has a strong knowledge base and is highly skilled in a variety of art mediums. She is an energetic and ambitious person regarding arts education.

Melanie has begun her new role just at the right time. Among all the devastation from the bushfires that have cast a tremendous shadow over our amazing East Gippsland community. In conjunction with Gippsland Lakes Community Health she has been running creative workshops at the Bairnsdale library over the school holiday period to keep children and all ages busy.

Gallery Director Crystal Stubbs says of the new appointment ‘More people, and a greater diversity of people, are engaging with the Art Gallery. Through education the arts are recognised as critical for wellbeing, which is something we need right now. We are thrilled to have Melanie on board and a part of our gallery team. She is dedicated and passionate about engaging, encouraging and inspiring our community to be a part of our local visual arts network and the gallery’.

Melanie will tailor programming that connects people with art and artists at the Gallery. Working with people of all ages Melanie is committed to enhancing the culture of Arts education in East Gippsland and developing Arts Learning programs that link to the needs of the community.
