Step into the world of Runway Stories — a vibrant fashion parade celebrating the creativity of designers and makers redefining style through sustainability. Discover striking one-of-a-kind garments, expertly crafted from beautiful fabrics and brought to life on the runway through bold design and craftsmanship.
Every garment is made from sustainable or repurposed fabrics, with no new polyester used in production. Strong silhouettes, beautiful fabrics, considered detail. This is wearable art.
Adding a touch of Australian fashion royalty to the occasion is the appearance of Prue Acton OBE — often referred to as "Australia's golden girl of fashion" during the 1960s and one of the country's most iconic designers. Starting her own business in Melbourne in 1963, Acton became the first Australian designer to break into the American market, with her designs featuring in full-page ads in the New York Times and in the window displays of prominent department store Lord & Taylor. She won numerous awards during her career, including five Australian Wool Board Awards, four Fashion Industry of Australia Lyrebird Awards, and three David Jones Awards for Fashion Excellence — as well as three international awards for Olympic Opening Ceremony uniforms. She was awarded an OBE in 1982. Born in Benalla, Victoria, her appearance at a regional Victorian event feels particularly fitting.
After the parade, continue the experience in the theatre foyer, where featured garments will be available for purchase — offering you the chance to take home a truly unique piece of wearable art.
All proceeds support East Gippsland Art Gallery’s SkillUP Youth Arts Program
